We tried to answer all of your questions here. Let us know if you have any more questions about our Basic Meditation Workshops. Click here to read Yoga FAQ or Meditation FAQ

What if the weather is bad on the day of the workshop?

Unfortunately, this is something we will not be able to control. If the weather is bad or too cold for this kind of workshop we will hold the workshop at a private location in Reno and refund the participants $15 for each day they did not get to hike.

What do I need to bring?

You will bring everything listed in the Hiking FAQ, and if you want a soft pillow or blanket to sit on that you don't mind getting dirty.

How long will the workshops take?

In additional to the time listed for each session on the meditation workshop page we will have drive time to the trail head, hiking to the location, hiking back to the car, and driving back into Reno. We recommend planning the whole day. As it gets closer to the time of the workshop we will know which trail will be the best and which location the most comfortable for this workshop. So the exact location and a more accurate time will be estimated, but again we recommend you plan the whole day so you do not feel rushed.

What if I can't make it to the 1st or 2nd half of the workshop?

If you know in advance you will not be able to make one of the workshop dates we recommend you wait for the next workshop in 2012 or schedule part of the workshop as a private session. (Fees will vary.) We can come to your home, location of your choice, or you can come to one of our locations to take those sessions privately.

What if I want to learn to meditate, but don't want to hike?

Then we recommend you call to schedule private sessions to learn to meditate in your home, a private location of your choice, or at one of our private locations or you can wait for the next workshop scheduled in 2012.

When should I arrive?

We recommend you plan on reaching the meeting place in Reno early. We have a full day planned. Once it is our scheduled time to leave we will begin our drive to the trail head & there are no refunds if you don't make it to the meeting point on time. We are reasonable and will allow you to use the fee toward an upgrade to private sessions so all will not be lost. :)

What if I don't live in Reno & don't want to drive down to the meeting point there?

Contact us and let us know where you live & we'll discuss whether the location of the trail head or Reno meeting place will be more convenient for you. We will make what ever reasonable accommodations to meet you at the trail head before the hike begins.

What information is gathered to find my personal Primordial Sound?

To calculate your personal Primordial Sound the Chopra Center needs:

-Your date of birth (Month, Day, Year)
-Your time of birth
-Your location of birth

This information is calculated to figure out the exact sound the Universe made when you were born. If you do not know this information we have ways to find your personal sound, but contact Samantha and you can discuss your options. :)

Why is there a workshop A & B?
Teaching someone how to meditate is not a black and white process and research has show people are more likely to add meditation to their lives if they have a clear understanding of what it is and how it works. More people give up on their meditation practice after returning home and being unsure about their personal sessions at home. So after learning how to meditate and meditating in a group you will go home and meditate on your own for two weeks and then return for a second session where we answer all those questions that have come up and bring some new information into what you have learned.
I have tried meditating, but I am not sure if I'm doing it right.
This is a common concern of people who taught themselves to meditate from a book, cd, or even a basic course with an instructor who did not cover all the stages of meditation with you. There are ways to know for sure if you are meditating, but if you have already tried to meditate and you are not sure if you are doing it right we recommend to take a class or learn from an instructor who will take the time to train you properly. Knowing that they will not let you walk out of that training without the confidence that yes you now not only know how to meditate, but you know for a fact you are doing it properly.
Can I take any Session B?
We expect most workshops to sell-out so unfortunately placing you in a different session B causes many issues. We are willing to review special cases, but can not make any promises. An alternative option that some people chose is to have their second session in private. There would be an additional fee, but if there is no way to make the second session you are scheduled for it's a good option.
When should I arrive?

Session A: We suggest you arrive 30-45 minutes before your workshop is scheduled to start. This allows us the time to register everyone and for you to meet some of the other attendees and review what you will be learning for the day. We have a lot of information to cover and the workshops do start exactly on-time. So it is not possible to sign everyone in during the final 10 minutes before the workshop begins.

Session B: 15-30 minutes before the workshop begins is usually enough time to arrive for the second session.

What payments are accepted?
Cash, check from a local bank, or PayPal (use email
If your check does not clear you must bring cash to cover the workshop and any bank fees associated with your check bouncing before you attend your first session. (If you pay by check at the first session and it bounces you must bring cash to cover the workshop and bank fees before attending your second session.)
How can I sign-up and pay in advance?
Signing up and paying in advance is the only way to guarantee you have a spot before the workshop sells out. Contact us by email or before/after a class to secure you place in the workshop you want to attend.
